Weird food

There are so many weird and strange food in this world. Have you tried any of these Salmiakki, Stinky Tofu and Durian? Out of these 3 food, i can only take durian. Perhaps i am born in Asia and that’s why i have fallen in love with it’s taste and smell of durian fruit (aka King of fruits). Likewise, Finnish are crazy over Salmiakki. And Hong Kong people love stinky tofu.
We Asian will start to think “What’s wrong with this people…?” Durian is such a delicious food.
Sometimes, it cross my mind what if the western also love to eat durian, if demand is good, then durian supplies won’t be enough for everyone else in this world.

Food critics on durian tasting:-

British novelist Anthony Burgess writes that eating durian is
“like eating sweet raspberry blancmange in the lavatory.”
Chef Andrew Zimmern compares the taste to
“completely rotten, mushy onions.”
Anthony Bourdain, a lover of durian, relates his encounter with the fruit as thus:
“Its taste can only be described as…indescribable, something you will either love or despise. …Your breath will smell as if you’d been French-kissing your dead grandmother.”
Travel and food writer Richard Sterling says:
“ its odor is best described as pig-shit, turpentine and onions, garnished with a gym sock. It can be smelled from yards away.
Do you know why durian is known as The Forbidden fruit,  this is because it is forbidden from many hotels, airlines, public transportation because of its strong pungent smell.

Stinky Tofu

I remembered i ate this once and only a small bite and it stinks like garbage. Tried it in Malaysia once, never tried in Hong Kong before. Maybe it taste different in Hong kong because Hongkies love it so much.
